Video 1~ Book Trailer: Teachers & Counselors use this book in PreK - 8th grades. Don't let the title fool you. This book is for kids of ALL AGES facing life's challenges and is presented in a way that even young children can understand. Now, you can use it at home to develop emotional intelligence (EQ/EI). It will become a family favorite. Watch the trailer for I Don't Want to Go to Kindergarten...I'll Miss You Toooo Much! (PREVIEW)
"Powering-Up" strengthens the immune system, increases memory, helps us learn more easily, lowers stress levels, reduces the desire to bully or use drugs, and much, much more...not to mention it makes us simply feel great! This is a social emotional learning (SEL) tool that I teach daily to middle school students and adults. Last year, I shared it with all of my elementary school students and teachers. It was included in our series of Parenting Workshops for families, grandparents, and caregivers.
"Powering-Up" on a regular basis improves our lives. Get the hardcover or Kindle book, watch my other videos, & Start Today!
Video 2: This video shows more detail about the Arm Activity described in the book I Don't Want to Go to Kindergarten...I'll Miss You Toooo Much! (PREVIEW) WATCH the video BEFORE trying this on anyone. Although the results are fun and surprising, the Arm Activity is NOT a game.
The 4 year old in the video saw that he became weak after thinking about something sad. He instinctively tried to keep his arm up with his other hand because he did not want to be weak. He did not realize that "Powering-Up" (with a happy thought) would automatically make him strong again. Changing his thoughts literally changed the chemicals in his brain and body.
Although this is a simple activity, there are a few important things to keep in mind:
- NEVER do this activity on anyone with a weak or injured shoulder.
- Children should NOT do this without adult supervision.
- When testing a child, physically LOWER yourself to his/her level.
- Always take responsibility for your child’s well being.
"Powering-Up" is a social emotional learning (SEL) technique that creates endorphins, reduces cortisol, strengthens the immune system, increases memory, helps us learn more easily, reduces the impact of bullying, and much, much more...not to mention it makes us simply feel great! This is a tool that I teach daily to middle school students and adults.

Video 3: Watch Dr. Joseph's TEDx Talk. He explores self confidence and how it is not just the most important skill in athletics, but in our lives. Choose your words carefully. I Don't Want to Go to Kindergarten helps kids change their thoughts and self-talk.

Make your own Power Penguin Puppet for creative play that empowers children. Roll play and reinforce "Powering-Up" before, or after, any challenging situation. Roll playing a better response after a situation can help develop new strategies for the future and lessen current anger, sadness, etc. You can download the template in color or in black and white. My students loved making and using their paper bag puppets!
"Powering-Up" with happy memories is one of the best tools kids of ALL AGES can use to feel better in any situation.
